Personal Best Options for January 2014

Personal Best Information:

Attendance.

All students are expected to attend a minimum of one Personal Best session a week. It is a registered session and is part of the school day. Any student who will need to miss the session will require a letter or a phone call from a parent or carer explaining the absence. Any students who do not attend Personal Best will be expected to attend a 1 hour detention on a Thursday night after school where they will complete homework or extra Literacy or Numeracy work.

Activity: Students will learn Street Dance choreography. They will put together dance routines as a group and perform in the school talent shows throughout the year. The Street Dance Club has links to outside clubs and students from the school have gone on to perform in shows in the community.

Activity: Students will be looking at basic construction skills from wiring a plug to building a brick wall. They will also cover basic carpentry, plumbing, painting and decorating skills.

Activity: Students will be designing and producing Art work on canvas for displaying around the school. The students from the club last year produced the Art that is currently on display in the school reception area.

Activity: Students have the opportunity to take part in Zumba classes for free. They will learn the basic choreography and keep themselves fit whilst having fun.

Activity: Students will have the chance to work alongside the Rotary Club. The Interact Club will be run as a ‘junior’ version of the Rotary Club. There will be roles and responsibilities to be voted into e.g. Chairman, Treasurer. The Interact Club will be a registered club with the Rotarians and will be actively involved in fund raising and community projects. The Interact Club is a recognised organisation that can be used on CV’s and UCAS application forms for University.

Activity: Students will get the opportunity to be involved in projects focused on volunteering to make a positive difference in the school and/or local community. Run by external Queen’s-award winning charity Aik Saath [aiksaath.com] there are opportunities for training in conflict resolution and mentoring. The student’s volunteering can also be accredited by national charity V-Inspired and the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme.

Activity: Students will learn the safety of Trampolining and basic to advanced routines. The students will develop their own routines, this is an activity that be used in GCSE PE. This club is limited in numbers due to the safety concerns.
